Research: Loire Valley

Chateau Brissac

Chateau Brissac is located near Angers, in the Loire area of France. What interests me here for research are the different building styles, the interiors and craftsmanship, the bedchamber of Louis XIII, the vineyards, and underground passages. Oh, and the medieval kitchen (will post pictures as soon as I find them!) WEBSITE

Chateau de Saumur

Chateau de Saumur  is located in Saumur on the banks of the Loire river. I was interested in seeing the vineyards, the vast porcelain collection exhibited throughout, the art collections, the underground passages and stairways, and generally the interiors of what is a military  castle. Loved some of the floors here. WEBSITE

Chateau de Breze

Ah! This one! Never thought I would ever get to dwell around in an underground castle; what a treat it is to visit here! Chateau de Breze (the above ground part) isn’t the prettiest castle in the Loire Valley, but what it lacks in charm or whimsy, it more than makes up for in the interesting things you get to see. I was interested in the vineyards, servant’s quarters, servant of servant’s quarters, the Bishop’s bedchamber, and more than anything, the underground passages representing the very original dwellings, bakeries, the deepest mote in Europe. WEBSITE
